Using WiFi Aid
What does Essential Check test?
Essential Check compares the current iOS network path, a captive-portal response, independent secure internet requests, a direct-IP connection, hostname access, and three bounded stability samples. It is designed for a fast first answer that still measures variation.
What does Deep Check add?
Deep Check adds more independent providers, direct-IP and hostname comparisons, and repeated timing samples. Those extra samples help separate a brief timeout from a genuinely unstable connection.
What does Check a Website do?
Enter a public website address. WiFi Aid compares that destination with otherwise healthy baseline paths. It reports a site-specific issue only when the wider internet evidence is working.
What does the confidence level mean?
Confidence describes how strongly independent checks agree. A limited result is intentional: it means the evidence did not justify a stronger claim.
Common connection results
Wi-Fi sign-in page detected
Open Safari and complete the hotel, airport, cafe, school, or guest-network sign-in. Then return to WiFi Aid and run the check again.
DNS is likely failing
Pause any VPN or Private Relay configuration first. If direct-IP access still works while names repeatedly fail, review the DNS settings on the device or router and try a trusted resolver.
Provider issue is likely
Try one other device on the same network. Restart the router once, wait for it to reconnect, and check the provider's status page. Avoid repeated rapid restarts.
The connection looks unstable or slow
Move nearer the router, pause large transfers, and compare another Deep Check. WiFi Aid measures application-level response behavior; iOS does not provide a general-purpose nearby Wi-Fi spectrum scan.
Privacy and permissions
Why can WiFi Aid ask for location permission?
Apple requires precise When In Use location authorization before an app can read the name and security of the Wi-Fi network currently in use. This permission is optional and is requested only when you choose to show that network identity. WiFi Aid does not request background location.
Can WiFi Aid scan nearby networks or change my router?
No. iOS does not allow a normal App Store utility to scan every nearby Wi-Fi network, inspect other devices' traffic, or reconfigure an arbitrary router. WiFi Aid does not claim those capabilities.
Where is my history stored?
History is stored locally on this device. Use Clear History to remove it, or delete the app to remove its local data. Shared reports intentionally omit Wi-Fi names, BSSIDs, local addresses, and raw endpoints.
Paid app access
Are any tools sold separately?
No. WiFi Aid is purchased from the App Store before download, and every diagnostic, report, history, Apple Watch, and widget feature is included. The app has no in-app purchases or recurring subscription.
How do I download WiFi Aid again?
Open the App Store with the Apple Account that originally purchased WiFi Aid, then download it again from your purchase history. Apple manages the App Store purchase and download.
