How to Record and Transcribe Meetings on iPhone Without Uploading to the Cloud

1
Open Sono Note before the meeting starts

Launch the app 1–2 minutes before the meeting begins. Tap Record to start capturing audio immediately.

2
Position the iPhone on the table facing the speakers

Place the iPhone face-up in the centre of the table for best audio capture. You don't need to hold it.

3
Tap Stop when the meeting ends

Tap the stop button. Sono Note begins on-device transcription automatically — no internet required.

4
Wait for transcription to complete

Transcription time depends on recording length. A 30-minute meeting typically takes 1–3 minutes to transcribe.

5
Review and edit the transcript

Read through the text and correct any errors. Proper nouns and technical terms often need manual correction.

6
Export action items to your notes app

Copy the transcript to your notes app, or use the share sheet to send it via email or save to Files.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sono Note send my meeting audio to any server?

No. Sono Note processes everything on-device using Apple's Speech framework. Your audio never leaves your iPhone.

How accurate is on-device transcription for meetings?

Accuracy is good for clear speech in quiet conditions. Multiple overlapping speakers, accents, and background noise reduce accuracy.

Can Sono Note label different speakers in a transcript?

No. Sono Note produces a single-stream transcript without speaker identification. You will need to add speaker labels manually.
